How to manage your management
MANAGING YOUR MANAGEMENT
Most developer compounds employ the services of International Property Management companies and some have their own in-house management. In either case, standards can vary greatly.
Some management companies employ young, cheap, inexperienced staff with poor language, communication and service levels. Given the high management fees, some management companies both international and local, are found wanting in their levels of service.
Before deciding on your compound, talk directly to the management and see how their levels of communication and understanding are. If the staff can’t communicate effectively on simple matters, how will they be if a leaking roof causes floods in your living room. (Sadly these things happen).
Make sure that you get a copy of the management’s service agreement so that you know what they are and are not responsible for.
If you are having problems with young inexperienced staffs then speak to the manager of the management company or the compound manager. If things aren’t resolved ask your agent to talk to them on your behalf.
Management are responsible for providing a quality of service and support that allows a comfortable life in your compound in Shanghai.
